The Church of St Peter, Offham
CLUBS & GROUPS

Sunday Club

Sunday Club exists for younger members of the congregation from 1 month to secondary school age. Groups meet in the Rectory on Sunday mornings at 10.15 for a variety of fun activities centring around Bible stories and church knowledge. Children join the rest of the congregation in the adjacent church for the second half of the Sunday service.

Children certainly do not have to attend every week. We are very flexible and welcome children with varying patterns of attendance from ‘one offs’ if, for example, staying with grandparents and want to drop in to once a month or weekly attenders.

We organise an annual pantomime trip and have had a summer expedition to Drusilla’s Zoo in the past few years.

Wednesday Club

As the name suggests the Wednesday Club meets once a month on Wednesday evenings at 8.00 pm usually in the Rectory. Initially it was intended as an opportunity for an informal friendly get together for women but over the years more and more men have been attracted to the meetings – we think it’s the chocolate biscuits! There is no need to be a church goer to attend – meetings are open to all. Lifts are always available.

New Church Banner

A beautiful new banner for both St Peter's churches has been designed and made by four members of the parish: Diana Gooding, Susan Rendall, Vera Motley and Cath Urry. The idea arose when the Parish Map was housed in the church. The existing banner was acquired from another church and has no particular association with the parish. The suggestion was made that it would be splendid to have a new banner which reflected the style of the Parish Map and showing the two churches and the flora and fauna of the parish.

After a year's hard embroidery the new banner was dedicated during the 10.30 service on Easter Day 2005 to great acclaim. The centrepiece shows St Peter, his fishing boat with fish caught in its net and the two churches of St Peter, Hamsey and St Peter, Offham. Around the sides are examples of the plant and animal life within the parish.

Many thanks are due to the team of four for their skill, ingenuity and sheer hard work in producing this beautiful and remarkable banner.
